Construction Lawyer (of council)
Two of Clay Huntington’s ’s favorite quotes: “Success is not final, failure is not fatal, it is the courage to continue that counts” and “Those who serve supreme causes must not consider what they can get, but what they can give.”
Sir. Winston Churchill
Clay has always tried to engage in activities that mattered and has enjoyed creating and growing departments in his work for others and in building his own law firm and company from the ground up, always contributing to his community where possible and never giving up, even in difficult times.
In 2000 Clay started his own law firm and practiced/litigated matters in construction law, employment law, business law, business formation and transactional work and criminal law. Soon after he opened his own firm he also became assistant general counsel for A&W Builders, litigating matters across the construction law spectrum, from licensing issues to breach of contract & construction defect.
The success Clay and his wife Kristen were having on the Pro ITSA Tandem Surfing World Tour, placing 3rd in the world rankings in 2008 and 2009, inspired him to open RWorld, a vertically integrated surfboard manufacturing company with a 6500 sq. ft. factory located in San Clemente & retail shop located in Laguna Beach. In RWorld his plan was to engage in what he calls “Socially Conscious Capitalism.” On a global scale, Clay created the “One For Life” program wherein he used a portion of the profits from every product he manufactured and sold to help fight Malaria in Africa, where a child dies every minute from a very preventable disease. On the local community level, Clay created “The Opportunity Project” (TOP) which is a program to support local school programs. Clay regularly donated surfboards and other product to local school programs and clubs for their auctions to help them raise much needed money to fund their programs and clubs.
Running this vertically integrated company for nearly a decade provided Clay with intimate knowledge in the areas of asset management; human resources; Intellectual property creation, maintenance and protection; finance; accounting; tax and business insurance matters; maintaining corporate status; maintaining, improving, and implementing procedures to ensure AQMD & County regulations and reporting requirements were met; managing factory budget; AR/AP; payroll; and capital projects. In building and growing the retail establishment, Clay gained valuable knowledge as CEO in developing the marketing strategy and creating media relationships that allowed Clay to vastly increase the brand awareness of his Company. As a testament to his success in these endeavors, in 2015 and 2016 RWorld was voted OC’s best surf shop by OC Register readers.
Now that Clay’s son has finished his marketing degree at Cal State Fullerton and taken over operations at RWorld, Clay has returned his focus to his first passion in his law career, that of helping builders navigate the murky waters of contractor licensing issues, mechanics liens & construction law. Mr. Huntington joined
Plumtree & Associates in the position of “of counsel” to merge his law experience with his practical experience as a business owner to represent construction contractors.
In his spare time Clay likes to spend time with family, surfing and golf.
